After reinstalling Owncloud using Chef (see this post) I had to spend some time figuring out how to import existing calendar data into an Owncloud calendar. Initially I wanted to subscribe to a remote calendar (bank holiday data) in the Owncloud web interface, but I didn’t find a way to do this. Instead, I created a calendar export in the standard .ics format. Again, it was not obvious how to import the data from the export into Owncloud, but finally I found a suggestion that you have to upload the exported file to your files and then click it. You will then be asked which calendar to use for the contained calendar events. I’ve done this before but had forgotten about it, so this post is mainly a reminder for myself.
I’d really like to see a way to subscribe to external calendars in Owncloud, so that all my devices can get those calendars without any extra configuration. This is a workaround at best.
